Artist Biography
A former student of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he has devoted himself to painting for more than 20 years. For 17 years, he has been running a private workshop in the Paris region for children and adults and organizing annual exhibitions of the workshop's works, participation in numerous competitions and Underground movements such as Mail-Art. The human body is the central element in Stora's paintings. It “turns around,” since its beginnings, in the form of self-portraits, then of the whole body. His body of work is inspired by Muybridge's Human Figure in Motions photographic series. By drawing these bodies in different postures, the “photographic” aspect fades, giving way to writing in which the bodies create an alphabet. These bodies become accomplices and participate in turn or together in the development of mythologies. All combinations are possible and demonstrate free transpositions to create a subtle and rare alchemy imprinted with doubts, chances, surprises, permanent questioning, eternal beginnings.
