Artist Biography

Jacob Spacek is a contemporary painter based in the vibrant town of Seguin, Texas. A graduate of Texas State University, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus on painting, laying the foundation for his artistic exploration. After college, Jacob served as co-owner and creative director of BLUEorange Contemporary Art Gallery from 2012 to 2017. During his tenure, he curated numerous exhibitions and championed the work of artists from Houston, across Texas, and throughout the United States, all while maintaining his artistic practice and founding JS Canvas in 2016, a custom canvas building service for Texas artists. Jacob grew up in rural Adkins, Texas, nestled in the sand hills southeast of San Antonio, near his current home in Seguin. After over a decade of city living— primarily in Houston—he returned to rural life, where the South Texas landscapes immediately reignited his creative spirit. On his frequent drives through the countryside, Jacob found inspiration in the rolling landscapes, weathered farm equipment, tractors, and abandoned sheds that dot the region. This renewed connection to his roots is the driving force behind his latest body of work. In these paintings, Jacob juxtaposes the visual language of the Texas landscape with sculptural Americana relics, creating compositions that are striking and vaguely familiar. While his work remains firmly grounded in the tradition of landscape painting, Jacob views each piece as an abstract color painting where his use of exaggerated color palettes and emphasis on simplified shapes enhances the sense of nostalgia that permeates his subjects, transforming everyday scenes into vivid expressions of rural life, both past and present.
