Bernard Gantner was born in Belfort, France in 1928. He was encouraged by his grandfather at a young age to draw. He went to Paris to study at the School of Fine Arts and later returned home after a year. His career as a painter gained momentum in 1950's. In 1961 he won the Critic's Prize for his work, since then he has had numerous exhibitions in France and abroad.
