Artist Biography
Betsy grew up in Westchester, New York the daughter of a mother who was herself a graduate of Cooper Union and professional artist, and a father who practiced law for many years. She is married to Ned S. Kirschbaum, FAIA, Principal and Technical Design Director at Fentress Architects. She currently resides in Greenwood Village, Colorado in a home and studio designed by her husband. After two years of studying painting at the School of Fine Arts at Boston University, Betsy went on to receive her BFA Degree at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where she studied printmaking with Garo Antresian, one of the founders of the Tamarind Institute of Lithography. From there she moved to Denver, Colorado to continue her studies in painting and printmaking and received her MFA Degree from the University of Denver. Many years later, interested in teaching in the public school system, she attended Metropolitan State University of Denver, where she obtained her teaching certificate with a certification in art education, K–12 grades. She taught middle school art for 25 years in the Cherry Creek School System at the Challenge School, a magnet school for gifted and talented children.
