Purple and blue abstract expressionist painting that can be hung vertically or horizontally. Edith Brown signed the work in two places depending on how the viewer would like to hang the work. It is framed in a wooden frame with a tan matte.

Artist Biography

Edith was born 1903 in Arkansas. She always had an interest in art and chemistry. She attended college and obtained a degree in business and chemistry. She had little time to pursue her love for art until 1957 when the west Texas division of the grocery business was sold. She followed her passion full time mastering skills in several types of medium. You will find in some of her mosaics the use of items found in nature from west Texas or New Mexico using feathers, rocks, minerals, wood, bone, and more. Edith always favored abstracts over other styles. Edith belonged to many art programs, Abilene Fine Arts Museum Board of Directors and an organization chairman. West Texas Art Association she was the secretary, assistant director for a number of years and a member of the Board of Directors. Treasurer and auditor for many years with the Creative Arts Club of Abilene, member of the Houston Art League and a member in the Hill Country Arts Foundation in Ingram Texas. Edith won several awards at art shows over the years for her work. Her first solo art show was May 1961 at the Abilene Fine Arts Museum. She considered her paintings to be non-objective, abstract or semi-abstract forms expressing ideas, moods, sometimes resulting in a story predominating in the picture. In several the colors design or form is predominating and at other times it is the result of imaginative thought. Edith passed away in 1988.
