Artist Biography

Jim Laser is a photographer who grew up in Chicago. He recognized his love of photography from an early age thanks to a trip to the mountains of Colorado and a book by the famous nature photographer Ansel Adams. At 17 he was introduced to the art of fine printing by his older cousin who became his mentor. In Philadelphia at age 21 he started teaching photography and making images that would lay the foundation of his way of seeing. He first began selling his work after approaching the woman who he helped tend plants for who also happened to be an art buyer. She set up a presentation with their curator who selected several dozen images. Forty years later he is still continuing to produce images of what he loves. In 1982 he built a studio outside of Seattle where he now lives and works, overlooking the Puget Sound. Through photography he has explored many amazing cultures and places around the world and studied many great architects. Furthermore, he has embraced the digital revolution and has allowed it to help him expand his work in directions he couldn’t have even imagined.
