About

After years spent refining the collection, Gee has curated a selection of postage stamps from around the world. This particular piece depicts a French 5 Francs postage stamp. Signed by the artist at the lower right corner. Editioned 16 out of 75 at the lower left corner. Mounted on a glass box with a white modern wooden frame. The postage stamp, invented in England in 1840, revolutionized global communication. All nations quickly adopted the concept making it their own. As the first form of mass media graphic design, each stamp tells its own cultural narrative, celebrating everything from commerce and innovation to art and agriculture. Gee spends hours searching for each stamp, often going through thousands before finding the one that will fit into the rest of the collection. The 100-year-old miniature hand-engraved artwork is then enlarged and digitally revised by Gee, creating a fresh contemporary take on the original. Finally, the stamp is printed on a 350gsm G. F. Smith card, cut out, and finished by hand.
