Roy Norman Medders, painter and printmaker, was born on February 9, 1926, in Calhoun, Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia and the University of Illinois where he majored in art. Medders joined the U.S. Army during World War II and served on the Italian front. After the war, he remained in Paris where he studied with Carl Holty. Upon his return to the states, he settled in New York City where he lived and worked. About 1990, Medders retired, moved, and built and home and studio in Columbia, New York where he remained in 2003. The Medders family holds a significant collection of his work.
