Artist Biography
Don Ferlen was born in Minneapolis, MN in 1925. He attended art school at the Walker Art Center and the St. Paul School of Art. He worked for the Bureau of Engraving in Minneapolis while continuing his own painting. After moving to Northfield in 1966, he worked at Carleton College and for the architectural firm of Sovik, Mathre, Madson. Beginning in 1976, he often traveled to New Orleans and exhibited his work on Jackson Square in the French Quarter. From 1986 through 1994, he worked for the David Kjerland Stained Glass Studio in Northfield as Artistic Director. He designed dozens of stained glass windows for such clients as the Dennison (MN) Lutheran Church, Hvistendahl and Moersch Law Offices (Northfield, MN), The St. James Hotel (Red Wing, MN), The Washington School for the Creative Arts (South St. Paul, MN) and Martins-by-the-Lake (Minnetonka Beach, MN). He also produced one-man shows for Northwestern National Bank (Minneapolis, 1964), Lincoln Bauls Gallery (Minneapolis, 1966) and Jano’s Gallery (St. Peter, MN 1972).
