About

Early naturalistic nautical painting by Danish painter Niels Peter Bolt. Known for his still life paintings of large floral bouquets, this work is a testament to his artistic range. The work features a large whaling ship with two crews in smaller boats in the foreground. While no whales are visible in the painting, it is clear the the crews are fighting against the waves to stay afloat as the ocean churns. Signed and dated in the front lower right corner. Currently hung in a carved wooden frame.
