Artist Biography

Born in Mexico City in 1951, Rafael Calzada began studying drawing and painting in 1968 at the National Arts School (San Carlos) enters the race of Fine Arts in 1969, studies ending in 1973. His first recognition came in 1972 when he received the First Prize of "Imprint" by the San Carlos Academy, received in addition to the Sowers Club of Friendship of Monterrey (1980) recognition for their work in beautifying the city with her sculpture monumental was given the keys to the city of New Orleans and Honorary Citizen for his painting exhibition. His work is in major private collections in Mexico, France, Brazil, Canada, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and the United States and in institutions like the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Pinacoteca in Monterrey, the Academy of San Carlos and Embassy of Mexico in Brazil. In 1993 initiated and founded the first experimental ceramics workshop in San Francisco Villa de Santiago Nuevo Leon .. 2005 "THE ANALOGY TO CONTEMPLACIOÓN" inaugurated on / 20 April / Cultural Center "PLAZA FATIMA" in Garza Garcia Nuevo Leon, Mex. Year 2007 compliant 35 years of professional artists, making a great exhibition of Painting in The Metropolitan Museum of Monterrey NL. Mexico. A Done till date more than 17 solo exhibitions. and over 300 group exhibitions in Mexico and level International.
