Quaint folk art painting of a young boy and girl holding a basket and balloons standing outside the titular "Granny's House." Based on the Victorian architecture and the palm trees in front of the house, this work was possibly painted in the Galveston area. Signed in the lower right corner. Hung in a simple two-toned frame.
Artist Biography
Shipnes was raised in Illinois, studied at the Boston School of Fine Arts, and eventually settled in Houston, Texas with her family in 1944. She painted imagery from her travels to the Caribbean and Mexico, as well as scenes of her home in Texas and along the Gulf Coast. Shipnes was particularly proud that one of her paintings was once displayed at the U.S. diplomatic residence in China. It was brought to China by her acquaintance George Bush, the former president, when he served as envoy there. She passed away in 2001 at her Paintbrush Hill Farm near Brenham.
