Artist Biography
Ira Yeager is an American painter known for his whimsical depictions of animals, flowers, 18th-century figures, and portraits of Native Americans. “Painting is my life blood and life force—for me an everlasting quest in exploration of the various levels of my consciousness and creativity,” the artist has explained. “I return time and time again to the same themes. On each occasion, I bring new thoughts, techniques, and fresh ideas, seeking a greater perfection of subjects that are centuries old.” Born in 1938 in Bellingham, WA, Yeager studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy. He developed a deep connection to Bay Area Figurative artists like Richard Diebenkorn and Elmer Nelson Bischoff, both of whom were his teachers and strongly shaped Yeager’s work and practice. After traveling and living in Corfu, Greece and New York, NY, the artist returned to California for good in the 1970s. Yeager lives and works in Napa, CA.
