Artist Biography

Lee Hang-Sung was born in Korea. He still lives there. Primarily known as a painter, he became interested in woodcuts in 1957 and at the same time. He is the founder and President of the Korean Graphic Arts Society in Seoul. Throughout the nearly two millenniums, during which Korea was within a radius of Chinese cultural influence, Korean artist has seldom failed to temper the nature of this Chinese influence as to render their work immediately discernible. This is most apparent in Lee Hung's woodcut, "Mysterious Echo."
