Black and red poster published by Leningrad State Publishing House (Lengiz) to overcome illiteracy in the USSR featuring Lilya Brik, a Russian author and socialite who was connected to many leading figures in the Russian avant-garde between 1914 and 1930. On December 26, 1919 after the October Revolution, Lenin issued an official decree that all members of the population between the ages of 8 and 50 who could not read or write would be obligated to study reading in either Russian or their native language. This poster was part of was part of the campaign to promote literacy in Russia. The original poster was designed in 1925. The piece has been recently framed with a complimentary black matte and frame.
