Artist Biography

William Moreland was an educator who touched the lives of thousands of artists during his tenure at the University of Southwestern Louisiana from 1955 to 1986. He is best known for his elaborately framed non-objective paintings that enunciate a sense of religiosity, Moreland’s inner-self, and his peripatetic observations of landscapes. While recognizable imagery is rarely featured in his mature work, his work is easily understood, as well as profound. On several occasions Moreland was the subject of major exhibitions at The Ogden Museum of Southern Art and the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum.
