Modern abstract still life painting by Spanish artist Jaime Oates. The work features an abundant floral arrangement set against a green and orange background. Signed in the front lower right corner. Currently hung in a black frame with gold and blue accents.

Artist Biography

Jaime Oates (aka: Jaume Oates Borias and Jamie Oates Coris) was born in Tossa de Mar on the Costa Brava, in Spain on May 3, 1912 of English and Spanish descent. Jaime was born Jaume Oates (the Catalan spelling of Jaime) but he is generally referred to as Jaime Oates. Jamie grew up in Spain and studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Jorge, Barcelona. Thereafter he left for England to attend the Central School of Arts & Crafts in London. After finishing his studies he returned to Spain in 1948 but did not wish to live under the dictatorship of Franco and with his Spanish wife emigrated to Mexico City. The next move was to Taxco in 1955 where he was appointed Headmaster of the School of Fine Arts of Taxco. He later became the Director of the School of Fine Arts. He developed a “visual shorthand” way of painting the in the moment mood and atmosphere of the Taxco area he loved with native passion. Jamie Oates is best known for small scale watercolors.
