Artist Biography

"My work deals with light and space and a sense of silence and solitude. I use water and sky as metaphors for my life. The reflection represents how we are affected by the world and how we are perceived. The substance of water is who we are. The stream bed is our history. All are constantly changing and affecting the other. I love the sky and it's many aspects; brooding, uplifting, always in motion, never, ever the same. Using these elements of water and sky, coupled with the illusion of space, I hope to invoke a contemplative, reflective, moment for the viewer. I have a double major in Painting and Art History with a concentration in Oriental Art, specializing in the work of Japanese artists. Their ability to create visual silence and raise it to a spiritual level have been a profound influence on me." - Nancy Conrad (b. 1940)
