Modern abstract assemblage lamp sculpture by artist Steve Wellman. The work features a portrait collage created from various industrial scraps such as gears, springs, broken pieces of acrylic, and tires. Signed, titled, and dated on reverse.

Steve Wellman was born in Caspar, Wyoming in 1960. He spent most of his childhood in Calgary, Alberta and attended high school in Chicago. In 1978 he moved with his family to Houston, TX where he attended the University of Houston from 1979-1985. During his time in Houston, he participated in various exhibitions throughout the city, most notably a joint show with Wes Hicks at Lawndale Art Center. In 1990, Wellman moved to Butte, MO where he increasingly withdrew from the primary art market. Drawing inspiration from the town’s mining history, he began to incorporate various industrial refuse into his assemblages. Reminiscent of Dadaism and Outsider art, Wellman’s work combines found objects, recycled materials, and collage.
