Artist Biography

Through frequent cycles of forming, deforming, and reforming imagery, Mark Greenwalt’s non-deterministic figures evolve on drawing surfaces parallel to the greater world in which forms in nature, along with nature’s subset of human culture, fuse, grow, and decay. Mark considers his figures as meditative surrogates for the sequestration of suffering. Mark Greenwalt was born in 1961 in Dallas, Texas. He received a BFA and MA from Stephen F Austin University, Texas, and an MFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Between 1995 and 2000, Greenwalt taught drawing and painting courses for the University of Houston, Rice University, and the Glassell School of Art. Currently he is a life-drawing/painting instructor at the Glassell School of art and professor of art at College of the Mainland. Mark is a former president of the Texas Association of Schools of Art.
