Artist Biography

Yannick Ballif is a French graphics artist born in Longwy but active in the Paris area. She studied under Johnny Friedlaender and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and taught from 1977 to 1984 at l'Ecole des Arts décoratifs de Paris. Her work is represented in the Cabinet des Estamps of the Bibliotheque nationale. Saturated colors are used throughout Ballif’s printed oeuvre, generally in juxtaposition with the white of the paper or with black lines. At times she used color inks throughout most of her composition and sometimes black dominates. Inspired by Japanese drawings, her work exudes peace and quiet. Her subject matters focus on flora, water and rocky outcrops. She passed away in 2009.
