Contemporary figurative abstract painting by Houston-based artist David McGee. The work features a dwarf figure in a crown, a recurring character in McGee's work named “Mofo,” seated next to a rearing bull that has been repeatedly speared. The two are juxtaposed against a Modrian-esque background of red, white, gray, and black blocks that has been riddled with bullet holes. This work was featured in McGee's 2014 solo show titled "The Return of MOFO" at the Texas Gallery. Signed, titled, and dated on reverse. Currently unframed, but options are available.

Artist Biography

Houston-based artist David McGee was born in Louisiana, grew up in Detroit, and moved to Texas to study at Prairie View A&M University. His work draws on his interests in poetry, history painting, politics, race, class, pop culture, and their intersections.
